About Las Vegas

Las Vegas was founded on May 15, 1905, when 110 acres of land were auctioned off by the railroad company. The availability of water made Las Vegas an ideal refueling point and rest stop between Salt Lake City and Southern California.

On May 19, 1911 gambling was legalized in Nevada and just one month later, the city of Las Vegas issued six gambling licenses.

Las Vegas, the largest metropolitan city in the U.S. founded in the 20th century, sprawls over 113 square miles. There are over 500 places of worship and 799 acres of parks.
