As one of the top real estate companies in Las Vegas, the majority of Huntington & Ellis’s content tends to target those looking to answer questions about real estate. While we greatly value informing the public about this topic, we thought it would be more valuable at this time to describe things that you can do in the comfort of your own home.
READ. (And not the news.)
While it’s important to be educated in the happenings of the world, especially at challenging times like these, too much focus on the situation can be unhealthy.
Try picking up a book on a different topic that genuinely interests you and brings you joy. Perhaps there is a story you’ve heard good things about, or a classic you’ve been meaning to pick up, or even a magazine on celebrities that you follow. Or maybe there’s a skill that you can read up on that will enhance your work-life.
Whatever you choose, the important part is to pick reading material that feels like fun and not like work (although working from home is likely in your regimen right now). Studies show that reading for pleasure reduces stress, improves communication skills, and increases empathy. So head to that dusty bookshelf and wear out those pages with love!
Phone a friend.
This is a rare time when most people in your social network are likely working from home. You never know who might be looking for a cheerful voice to chat them up. Go through your contact list and call up a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while. You might be surprised by how happy they are to hear from you!
Plan your dream vacation.
Studies on stress have shown that the anticipation of something good brings more endorphins and dopamine to the brain than the actual experiencing of that positive event.
Start planning your dream vacation. Think outside the box, look up resorts and countries you’ve always dreamt of visiting, or never even thought of visiting! Look at restaurant menus and spa services. You’ll find that just the planning alone will get you jazzed.
And who knows? Maybe this dream will become a reality sooner than you think.
Do some gentle yoga.
Working at home with the gyms and restaurants closed for weeks means you might have to get creative on how you take care of your body. Don’t let this stop you!
Yoga has been proven to reduce stress and improve focus and creativity. And the best part: anyone can do it! Look up some follow-along videos on YouTube (like Yoga with Adriene https://www.youtube.com/user/yogawithadriene ), and you’ve got a FREE workout/massage combo. You can check “self-love” off the to-do list once completed.
Watch your favorite movie or show.
“But who has time to watch TV?” No excuses. Glue yourself to that couch and laugh and cry with your family. Doctor’s orders.
Spend time with your loved ones.
You may not be the only one in your home during this quarantine. Take advantage of this time to really cherish the people you live with. Play board games, make s’mores, or just hang out and chat. Because once this quarantine is over, you’ll be up and moving and might not have time together like this for a very long time.
While it is crucial to take care of your personal and the public’s health, we emphasize self care and emotional health as important contributors to this effort.
